The work
Field of Truth gives provisional interpretations a visible afterlife. As new evidence enters, earlier readings persist beside the present. Through fluid images, language and sound, the work asks what it means to revise a belief without erasing its history.
How it works
The work observes eight information fields chosen by the author: climate and extreme events; AI, power and regulation; the Epstein files; the global economy and the cost of living; the Middle East; migration and borders; Ukraine and European security; contemporary art and cultural power. Headlines and accessible passages of the news feed a local language model, which formulates provisional readings within an authorial frame. Every observation enters a persistent archive. When the system recognises a relation with the previous reading, that relation becomes a visible condition of the text: continuity, revision, displacement, unresolved coexistence.
The palimpsest
A revised reading loses presence while remaining legible; a displaced one moves away from the centre; unresolved readings coexist with the same visual weight. Distance in time does not establish that a statement was false or that the next one is true. Internal plausibility values are interpretive heuristics, never probabilities of truth.
Direction
Themes, sources, thresholds, corpus and compositional relations are decisions by Dario Buratti. The local model performs a bounded linguistic task within this grammar.
Materials
A WebGPU fluid field and a translucent membrane with its own rhythm; a thematic corpus of 80 images; five sound recordings that modulate brightness and deformation. Images and music are by the author. No webcam, no live image generation.
In time
No beginning, no end. The visual field and the news flow follow different rhythms: the field keeps moving even when the information stands still.
Technical sheet
| Architecture | WebGPU visual field; epistemic engine in Python; local language model included in the package |
|---|---|
| Sources | News from GDELT and Google News, filtered for relevance before synthesis |
| Memory | Persistent archive of readings and of the relations between them |
| Exhibition format | Horizontal screen of at least 65 inches or projection, with audio; variable dimensions |
| Network | Internet for new observations; a cache keeps the work running through outages |
| Running costs | No paid API: the model runs locally |
