The work
BIOMA · EchO listens to the living environment of the Amalfi Coast and lets it act on the abstract photographs of Gaetano D'Agostino. Wind moves them, pollen granulates them, temperature makes them drift, particulate matter breaks them apart. Beneath the image a palimpsest layer surfaces, carrying traces of other images.
Living matter
European weather networks and Copernicus satellites (wind, particulate matter, pollen, air quality, temperature, pressure), marine data (wave height and period, water temperature, currents), species observed on iNaturalist within 25 km over the last 48 hours.
The grammar
The system moves through five states: Sospensione, Flusso, Erosione, Frattura, Risonanza. Each state has a corpus of Residual Code Poetry in a D'Annunzian register, 150 compositions in all: the system selects fragments according to the conditions of the moment and lets them exist only as voice, never as written text. System, grammar, thresholds, dataset and texts are by Dario Buratti; the photographs are by Gaetano D'Agostino.
In time
No instant repeats: the work follows the real breathing of the place, hour by hour and season by season.
